******Tuesday, 12PM******

Polygirl and CPU were watching a monitor at one of the terminals in the lab. On the screen there was a conversation between two separate people and a woman with two heads sitting at the midpoint of the table.  CPU had two heads, four arms, and two legs, and was holding a tablet with two hands while using the other two to type.  Her left head was looking at the tablet while the right head was watching the screen.  “I think this test is going well. Do you agree?”  She spoke as she glanced to Polygirl who had a copy taking notes of the situation on the screen as well.

“I think so. Can you communicate with that body at all?  It would help to have a better status.” Polygirl replied as her copy kept going with the notes.

“No, I have no ability to communicate with the downloaded copy of me that is in there right now.”  CPU responded matter of factly.

“Okay, I didn’t include communications on that body in case someone tries to listen in or hijack a negotiation.”  Polygirl explained as she pulled out a cell phone and started typing on it.  “I did make sure that body has access to a cell phone at least.”  After a few seconds, the message was on the way to the other phone. Both women watched as both heads of the android said something to each of the people she was between before checking the phone she had been given.  After reading the message, each head spoke again to the other people in the room before they all got up and started to leave.  “I’ll have both bodies link up for a report on how the conversation went.”  Polygirl commented as both copies got up and went to the robotics lab to wait for the other android to come back.

******Wednesday, 8:30AM******

The cold morning was also fairly still in Angel Harbor Bay as what looked like a small trawler was moving through it. The only way you could tell this boat was different was all of the antennae on the top of the boat as well as below the water.  The small crew of the boat was working on keeping everything in order while the woman at the single computer terminal on board was focusing on the readings.  “How close are you to the harbor floor?”  Polygirl spoke into the microphone placed near the computer as she looked at the current readings, happy they were all still in the green.

“I am scraping against the bottom the harbor now.”  CPU’s voice came back clearly through the comlink. Well below the ship, she was swimming along in a body with one head, two arms, a fin on the back, and a fish tail instead of legs, making her look more like a mermaid right now.  As she looked around at the bottom of the harbor, she used her internal comlink again to talk to Poly up on the boat.  “This is a fascinating experience, and a much gentler sensation to process than learning to fly.”

“I suppose it does help to have something else holding you up.  Ready to go out of the harbor to test your depth tolerance?”

“I am ready for that. I believe I am also ready for a speed test of this body as well.”  She smiled as she responded before swimming up so she was well off the floor of the bay so she could start to pick up speed.

Polygirl looked at the readout before she grabbed a phone handset.  “Bridge, take us to the second set of coordinates as fast as you can.”

“Aye, getting underway now.”  Came the reply from the handset as the captain of the ship as he started to turn the ship away from the city and out into open water.

******Thursday, 10:42AM******

“How do you feel right now?  Any problems with sorting data like this?”  Polygirl had a couple of copies nearby taking notes as she was watching CPU test out a new body and a new configuration.

“No, no problem sorting data at all.”  CPU’s right head spoke first. Today the android was in a body with three heads, six arms, and two legs.  Currently she was busy working at three separate computers, looking over various projects Polygirl was working on.  “Actually, I think I prefer this form better.”  The center head observed as all three parts of her kept working.  “Uh oh, I believe I have found a problem with one of your equations.”  The left head looked concerned as those eyes read over an incredibly complex equation marked as ‘armor treatment’.

“What’s wrong with it?”  Polygirl responded in a worried tone as one copy came around and looked at the numbers.

The left head looked at Poly before a left hand comes up and points to one part of the equation.  “Right here, you multiplied incorrectly.  It looks like the armor you were trying to formulate will fall apart if subjected to the correct sonic frequency.”

Polygirl blushed as she pulled up the time code on when the calculations were done.  She remembered when she had been working on that. She had fallen asleep at her terminal and Gordon had carried her to their bed. “That’s what I get for trying to do math after 36 hours straight.  Can you correct that so I can go rework the armor?”

“Yes, of course I can.”  The left head replied as the equation was being edited, watching the changes throughout the rest of the formula happen.  “There, that should do it. I think the frequency that the other armor is vulnerable to is at the low end of human hearing.  However, testing would need to be done to find the exact frequency that would cause the armor to fail.”

Polygirl nodded as a couple of copies were split off and headed to where the armor was being constructed to start conducting tests.  “I think I will go find out how bad it could’ve been now.”  She blushed as she spoke.

******Monday, 8:30AM******

“So you’re saying some of his music would have shattered his own armor?”  CPU was moving around an open area of the lab, testing out a taur body rather unsteadily at the moment.

Polygirl nodded as she was helping her creation walk.  “He has one or two really weird bands he listens to, and the bass on a few songs just dips into the right frequency to cause problems.”  As they walked along a little more, Poly could tell that the android was very unsteady on all four feet.  “What’s the status of your gyroscopes?”

The female automaton looked at the scientist strangely.  “I only have one gyroscope active right now and it’s maxed out currently.”

“That doesn’t sound right. Here, sit down right here while I check something.”  Polygirl sounded concerned as she helped the android sit down on the floor where she could lean against the wall a little to help feel stable again.  Once she was okay on the floor, Poly went and got a tablet PC and a connecting cable and plugged it into the front the lower torso of CPU to begin to run a diagnostic.  In the span of about a minute, she had shuffled through half a dozen screens and entered in several commands before looking at the mechanical being again.  “Is that better?”

CPU looked off into space for a second before nodding.  “Yes, the second gyroscope is now online and functioning normally.  The main gyroscope is down to 50% of maximum rated tolerance.”  She smiled and stood up on her own before moving more confidently now and started moving faster through the open area.  While she was moving around, Polygirl was making sure to record as much as she could, both from cameras in the room and onboard telemetry.

Another Polygirl copy came into the area before activating the anti-gravity harness she was wearing, which lifted the copy up to place a ring on a hook towards the top of one of the walls.  After the ring was in place, the copy wound up descending faster than she planned to. The backpack mounted unit coughed and wheezed before the throttle jammed fully on, propelling that copy in a random direction and causing the android to cringe at the resulting crash into the far corner.  “I thought I had taken care of that throttle problem… Anyway, it’s time to try out the telescoping leg segments on this body.”

CPU looked a little nervous as she walked over to the wall with the hook on it after seeing how well some items hold together after Polygirl works on them.  Taking a moment to calm down, she focuses on extending all four legs to try to get the ring that was put in place for the test.  It took a few seconds to find the sequence to start to extend the legs but eventually she started to rise up the wall with all four feet firmly placed on the ground.  She now opened the eyes she had closed when she started so she wouldn’t see what was going to happen to her, and was shocked that she was halfway up the wall already.  “Yes, the system is working well. I believe I am almost there.”

“Yes you are. I put extra time into making sure that system works.”  Polygirl was happy as the copy had picked herself up and went to help the other copy that had been in the room first to take notes on the progress.

CPU eventually lifted herself up far enough to easily grab the ring off of the hook before lowering herself back down again.  “Yes, the ability to extend my legs is working very well.  What shall we test next?”

******Tuesday, 11:30AM******

“Okay, we’re at 20 tons now. How are your systems doing?”  Polygirl asked the android as she stood by the controls for the weight the android was trying to keep over her head currently.

“Not as good as I hoped.”  CPU responded in another sealed body that had one head, two arms, and two legs, but the body looked a lot more muscular this time. The part that worried both people the most was the sounds of creaking from the body that had started in around the 18 ton mark.  “Uh oh, my structural integrity alert just popped up.  I have another 1:30 before I collapse.”

Polygirl quickly became a blur of motion as all her hands flew over the controls to rapidly reduce the weight on the machine that was built both for exercise and to test the upper limits of the endurance of heroes of the city.  It took what felt like far too long before the weight was back under 10 tons and falling rapidly to professional bodybuilder standards.  “How are you doing now?”

CPU stepped away from the mechanism, carefully testing her legs to make sure they wouldn’t collapse on her.  “I am currently at 31 percent on my skeletal structure… Wait, make that 32 percent?”  She was a little confused as she noticed the number tick up slightly.

“I’ve been working with nanites some recently. They can do some repairs to deal with damage you sustain but if they go too long, your musculature will start to be affected.”

“Have you considered adding some kind of inert material to each body segment so the nanites will have fuel for their repairs?”  CPU asked as she noticed another percent increase gain.

Poly’s eyes lit up at the suggestion.  “I knew I put those empty spaces in this body for a reason.  Why don’t you download to another body and I’ll get this body back up and running.”

“Let me do so into my three headed body and look over the designs for this body. You programmed the old saying about more eyes into my memory.”  CPU responded as she gently walked back to the robotics lab to get her current body into the repair bay and slip into the one she was already very used to.

*****Thursday, 1:45PM******

The woman in the center of the room did a leg sweep on one of the robots attacking her, knocking it off of its feet onto it’s back before a foot went through the outer casing and dislodged enough of the internal components to shut it down.  When that one dropped, the rest of the robots around the room backed off to their starting point before shutting down, signaling the end of the exercise.  The woman in the center of the room stood up and surveyed the carnage she created around her in mild amazement.  “That was amazing. How hard is it for you make such high speed servos?”  CPU was testing out another body today, this one having one head, four arms, two legs, and looking very lean and nimble this time out.

The speakers in the room blared to life with Polygirl’s voice.  “I can’t make too many of them. The ones in you are all the ones I have right now.”

CPU looked up towards the booth a couple of Poly copies were occupying with a slightly confused look.  “You’re not working on any more of them right now?”

There was a pause before Poly spoke again.  “Okay, I just finished up two more servos, but they haven’t been tested yet.”  A few seconds after the speakers clicked off, the various robots in the room started to come alive again, causing CPU to adopt a defensive stance to get ready for the attack to resume.

The first robot to reach her again had a solid block for a torso and spindly arms, legs, and neck holding up a small head.  When it finally got up close enough to her, it tried to punch but swung wide as she put both right fists into the torso, making dual dents in the plating. It was thrown off balance enough for her to grab each leg with two hands each and flung it away into the far wall where it fell to the ground into a heap.

She recovered from the throw and got set to deal with the next robot as it came stomping up.  This one looked more human with a broader torso as well as more substance to the arms and legs. As it got into range to try to grab the test subject, it got a boot to the front of the helmet as she flipped backwards out of reach.  Once she landed, the robot put on a surprising burst of speed to close the small gap as it tried to grab her again.  This time, she used her lower hands to grab the forearms of the robot before flipping over him, using her upper hands to grab the shoulders, and then used all four arms to throw him against the wall he started from.  “How was that?”  She asked as she looked up at the booth again.

“Okay, I think this test is done now.”  Poly replied as all the copies in the booth worked on compiling the data that had just come in.

******Friday, 3:22PM******

The meeting room of the Guardians HQ was abuzz with activity as all of the Young Guardians had assembled, along with some of the regular Guardians who had heard about an announcement but had no idea what it could be.  Eventually Phyrefrost and Polygirl came into the room as the Young Guardians leader called the team to order.  “May I have your attention please?  Polygirl has just shown me a project she has been working on for a few months and is now ready to unveil it to everyone here.  Poly?”

Polygirl bounced up to the front of the room where the other woman finished speaking and waved to everyone.  “Hi everyone. I’ve been working on an android to help out the Young Guardians and possibly the regular team as well.  And don’t worry, I’ve already taken care of the power surges. Only had 3 of them this time.”  When she mentioned the last part, people around the room chuckled a little, knowing how a lot of the experiments the perky scientist end up.  “Come on out, Catherine, and introduce yourself to everyone.”

A woman with one head, two arms, and two legs wearing what looked to be coverall and boots walked out of the connecting room to stand next to Polygirl to applause from some of the people present.  “Greetings, everyone. My name is Catherine Priscilla Underwood.  My primary role is to help coordinate for the Young Guardians when they go on missions and occasionally joining heroes on missions as well.  In the field I wish to be called Adaptina.”

After she finished speaking, several holograms appeared over the heads of everyone present of several different bodies. Polygirl spoke up again as the images materialized.  “All of the images above me are of different bodies that I made for her.  Some of them can help with training but all of them will be able to help on some kind of mission.”

CPU leaned over to Polygirl and whispered in her ear.  “They seem distracted by the holograms.”

“Then go over and talk to them. They’re not that bad.”  Polygirl replied as she started pushing the android towards the audience.  What eventually convinced the android to go and start talking to the group is when Phyrefrost put her arm around the mechanical being and gently guided her to the Young Guardians so they could get better acquainted.
Annnnnnnnnnd the other part of the story...

So the android completed the trials and got introduced to the Young Guardians so everything is up and running now, hooray for finally getting the crap going and getting things done.

Teams of good guys get boosted in :iconangel-fallsda:

I like your new character Adaptina. Poor Polygirl clone wearing the anit-gravity pack, lol.

Does Adaptina have a 50ft tall body to fight giant monsters, robots and Skyscraper? =p
